In the spirit of Philip Carter and Earl Bynum‘s recent redux of “Jesus Dropped the Charges,” Dr. Alyn E. Waller brings back Harrison Johnson and the Los Angeles Community Choir’s 1969 testimonial hit, “I’ve Decided to Make Jesus My Choice.”
Assisted ably by the choir, Waller delivers the song with passion and conviction, right down to the bluesy vamp. Interjections by organ, piano, and guitar work alongside the choir in responding to Waller’s calls. It’s heartening to hear current artists reaching back into the gospel song bag and giving a contemporary feel to time-honored classics.
